Prime Minister Narendra Modi established the Indian Space Association (ISpA) via video conferencing on Monday and also talked with space sector professionals. Prime Minister Modi noted that ISpA will operate as a single-window and autonomous organisation for topics relating to space technology.

PM Modi outlined what he called the "four pillars" of space technology: freedom for private sector innovation, a government that acts as an enabler rather than a controller, training children for the future, and considering space as a resource for the common man's advancement. "This is an era of exponential invention, not linear innovation. This is only possible when the government acts as an enabler, not a controller. Today, the government shares its experience and serves as a launchpad for the private sector. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is being privatised," he explained.

He also emphasised how the space sector was once connected with the ruling regime, noting that his government was instrumental in changing this thinking. "We pioneered innovation in this industry. We also emphasised the need of collaboration between the government and start-ups," Prime Minister Modi stated.

Additionally, the Prime Minister remarked that ISpA's launch occurred on International Day of the Girl Child. Recalling the celebrations for women scientists involved in India's Mars mission, he expressed hope that space sector reforms will stimulate increased participation by women.
