Musk said he wouldn't allow the account to be on the platform because of his commitment to free speech. The account was suspended today with a message on its profile. Jack Sweeney, the owner of the jet tracking account, said that his account had been suspended because it broke the rules and is now permanently in read-only mode.

My commitment to free speech extends even to not banning the account following my plane, even though that is a direct personal safety risk. On Sunday, Sweeney posted a thread on the social network saying that he learned from an employee that his account had been shadowbanned. Sweeney shared a picture of internal messages from the head of trust and safety at the social network. "For quite a while, I suspected that the account was definitely search banned/ search suggestion banned," Sweeney said. Sweeney did not respond to a request for comment regarding the suspension. Donald Trump, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos are all tracked by Sweeney.

He doesn't "love the idea of being shot by a nutcase" and he was offered $5,000 to take down the tracking account. " Sweeney countered the offer by asking for $50,000 which he said would help him go to college and get a car, but Musk later said it " doesn't feel right to pay to shut this down." In an interview with Insider, Sweeney said that 5k is not enough and that he has done a lot of work on this. He said that it wasn't enough to replace the fun he has in this. Musk has claimed to be a "free speech absolutist," and recently published his Twitter Files which aim to expose free speech suppression on the platform prior to his takeover. The Trust and Safety Council advocated for safety on the site.
