RIVIAN R1T - Exterior
The R1T is visually distinct from typical pickup trucks, but it is not as radical or unconventional as the Tesla Cybertruck. It retains the conventional pickup truck body shape but incorporates modern characteristics. At the front, there are two vertically slotted headlights flanked by an LED bar that spans the width of the truck. The surrounds of the headlights function as both DRLs and turn signals. There is no grille here, but the bumper features a mesh design to keep it from looking too simple. Additionally, there are two tow hooks. The frunk is quite large, with 11 cubic feet of storage space available. A charging port is located on the passenger side of the front bumper. By putting your finger on three vertical lines on the black cladding here, you can open and close the port's cover.
The side profile is quite clean, with no significant cuts or creases. The square wheel arches and black plastic wrapping all around lend the truck an air of sportiness. Additionally, flush door handles are included. It rides on 20-inch wheels that look great but do little to help with aerodynamics. Perhaps in the future, something along such lines will be supplied. The wheels are fitted with Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tyres in the 275/65 section. 21- and 22-inch wheels are available as options.
The gear tunnel, on the other hand, is the centrepiece here. This is a storage area located behind the rear seats. There are buttons on both sides of the bed rails that must be pressed in order to access the gear tunnel doors. There are access doors on both sides that are capable of supporting up to 300 pounds each, which means you may use it to climb into the bed or sit on it when camping, for example. It provides 11.6 cubic feet of room, which is 0.6 cubic feet greater than the frunk.
Although you may stuff everything into suitcases, duffle bags, and the like, Rivian will have adventure and camping gear available for purchase here. The slide-out camp kitchen is the coolest. A countertop, a two-burner electric stove, a four-gallon water tank, a sink, and a 30-piece dishware set are included. All of this is available for $5,000. Additionally, Rivian offers a gear tunnel shuttle, which is a slide-out platform that emerges from the passenger side. It extends to six feet and has 12-volt and 110-volt outlets. Additionally, it can support up to 250 pounds of weight. It is included with the slide-out kitchen, but you can also purchase it separately if you are not interested in spending $5,000 to cook outside.
At the rear, similar to the front, there is an LED strip that spans the entire width of the vehicle. A button on the bed rail can be used to open the tailgate. The top-spec model includes an electrically controlled Tonneau cover. Again, there is a button on the bed rail that when pressed returns the Tonneau cover and when pressed again returns it to its original position. Regrettably, there is no option for a manual Tonneau cover. Within the bed, there are outlets in the manner of a household. The company has concealed a full-size spare wheel beneath the floorboard. Additionally, an onboard air compressor is included. When all is said and done, the truck bed measures just 4.5 feet, which may be insufficient for some buyers.

What Is The Weight Of The Rivian R1T?
The Rivian R1T is a somewhat large truck, weighing in at 7,173 pounds.
How Much Weight Can The Rivian R1T Haul And Tow?
The Rivian R1T tows and hauls up to 11,000 pounds. While the towing capability is fairly outstanding, it comes at a significant cost to the range when towing at maximum capacity. Audi did a test and discovered that hauling at full load lowered the range by half! That is a significant disadvantage that we will have to deal with until charging times are significantly decreased and charging stations are as plentiful as petrol stations are today.

RIVIAN R1T INTERIOR
The cabin is a fairly pleasant place to be. The chairs are really nicely supported, and there is also adequate cushioning for your neck and shoulders. Vegan leather is used to cover the seats. Additionally, there are storage areas beneath this area. Additionally, there is a detachable Bluetooth speaker here with its own dedicated slot. When inserted into its slot, it charges. In contrast to the majority of Tesla models, the Rivian R1T features a digital instrument cluster. It displays a good deal of driving-related info and eliminates the need to constantly focus on the touchscreen. Additionally, there is a massive panoramic sunroof up here. Apart from that, there is little else of interest.
Therefore, let us proceed directly to the touchscreen system. The Rivian R1main T's console features a 15.6-inch touchscreen that controls virtually everything. Everything is controlled via the touchscreen, from the HVAC settings to opening the hood and gear tunnel doors to adjusting the mirrors and steering wheel. While some settings can be adjusted using the rollers on the steering wheel, assigning them a function requires reverting to the touchscreen.
Fortunately, regardless of which page you're on, the fundamental HVAC controls are located at the bottom of the screen. While everything appears to be fine, it is a touch frustrating. Even the air vents may be controlled via the touchscreen system's control settings. Finally, and perhaps most shockingly, the infotainment system does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto! This will be a real bummer regardless of how well-equipped the infotainment system is.
On a related point, Rivian is likely targeting police departments with the R1T. The manufacturer has built customised chairs that enable cops to easily carry their firearms. For example, police departments have begun introducing electric vehicles into their fleets, which has resulted in significant cost savings for the agency. I should add that cops seem to like them as well. The new Fisker Ocean is being marketed as a rescue vehicle. Such peculiarities will undoubtedly prompt police officers to investigate these automobiles.
The powertrain and performance of the Rivian R1T
Rivian's R1T and R1S SUVs are built on a skateboard base. It comes standard with a quad-motor configuration – one electric motor on each wheel – that generates a combined 835 horsepower and 908 pound-feet of torque. Rivian says that the R1T can accelerate from rest to 60 miles per hour in three seconds and to 100 miles per hour in seven seconds. However, the car and driver could complete it in 3.3 seconds.
Rivian recently demonstrated how each of the R1eight T's drive modes performs:

RIVIAN R1T-CHARGING, BATTERY, AND RANGE
The Rivian R1T will be available in three battery configurations: 105 kWh, 135 kWh, and 180 kWh. For now, the 135 kWh battery pack is standard, and it provides an EPA-estimated range of 314 miles. The 180 kWh "Max Pack" battery pack provides a range of 400+ miles, but it is a $10,000 option. Rivian also hopes to introduce a 105 kWh entry-level battery pack with a range of approximately 230 miles. Expect to see a decrease in the starting price once this battery pack is introduced.
The Rivian truck is capable of fast charging at a rate of up to 160 kW. This implies that in just 30 minutes, you can gain around 200 miles of range. A onboard 11 kW charger enables rapid charging with a Level 2 charger.
RIVIAN R1T TECHNOLOGY
Tank Turn
The organisation has made significant investments in technology, which are visible. This is not a discussion about the infotainment system. Rivian demonstrated how the Tank Turn works back in 2019. As the name implies, the vehicle, like a tank, can turn on a dime. This is made feasible by the R1-T's separate motors. On one side of the vehicle, the motors spin forward; on the other, they spin in the opposite direction. It is, however, only suitable for use on slick surfaces such as dirt, gravel, and grass.
K-Turn
We learned last year that Rivian had also filed for a patent for a system named "K-Turn." Unlike the Tank Turn, the K-Turn incorporates steering input since the patent data indicates that the steering wheel must be turned slightly further than the steering lock point. Rather than spinning the motors in opposite directions, this feature sends forward torque to the front wheels and backward torque to the rear wheels. This way, the rear wheels can remain stationary while the front wheels drift out of position and point the vehicle in the direction of the steering input. This has the advantage of allowing the truck's orientation to be altered in a small amount of space.
Unlike the Tank Turn, which can be activated on grass, gravel, dirt, and similar surfaces, the K-Turn can be used on virtually any surface. This will make parking in tight spaces and manoeuvring in congested areas much easier.
Gear Shield
This feature is comparable to Tesla's Sentry Mode. Gear Guard utilises five of the vehicle's eleven cameras to provide a 360-degree image of the truck. When someone is less than a foot away from the vehicle, the cameras begin recording video. On the touchscreen device, an animated character appears to warn anyone with malicious intent that they are being filmed. Additionally, the Gear Guard system includes a cable for securing anything in the trunk. The plugs and cutouts for the steel braided cable are located in the bed just beneath the air compressor. It does not have a key or anything like that; it is locked automatically when the truck is locked. If something goes wrong, an alarm is triggered and the owner is notified via the Rivian Mobile App.

All of these factors point to a bright future for Rivian, which might very well become as large as Tesla within a few years.
