Tesla Semi-Truck — Recent Developments

Although news regarding the Tesla Semi Truck has slowed in recent weeks, progress is accelerating!

Tesla has been making incremental progress toward its aim of producing class-8 electric semi trucks since the company's initial debut on November 16, 2017. Tesla Semi is now apparently in the "limited production" phase.

This limited production will take place in a newly constructed facility in Tesla's Gigafactory Nevada, which is also home to the company's battery cell manufacturing.

Tesla fan Sawyer Merritt (who is connected to some sources at Giga Nevada) recently stated that manufacture of Tesla's large trucks had commenced at this facility.

Aerial drone footage captured earlier this month of Giga Nevada shows a Tesla Semi truck performing test runs on the specialised test track built around the manufacturing facility.

Tesla has also established a dedicated Megacharging station at Giga Nevada for the Semi. This is where Tesla is testing and calibrating the charging system for the Tesla Semi's massive battery pack.

Additionally, effort is underway to establish a network of Megachargers at trucker rest areas throughout the United States and Europe. This will enable over-the-road drivers to charge their vehicles on their trip to and from their logistics destinations.

This initial set of Tesla Semis in early production will almost certainly be sold to PepsiCo. Because PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta recently announced that his company will receive the first few Tesla Semi trucks at the end of this year.

The absence of DOT badges and manufacturer licence plates on these freshly found Tesla Semis also indicates that these are production models for Tesla customers.

As with the Cybertruck, the Tesla Semi has a significant backlog of orders from major and small businesses, as well as individual individuals. Karat Packaging just acquired ten Tesla Semis for its fleet.
