Tesla's Track Mode gives the driver more control over their car by letting them change a lot of things.

The driver has the ability to change the vehicle's handling, traction control, and regenerative braking. These settings can help the car handle and accelerate better in curves.

In addition, drivers can change the car's balance in Track Mode to make it more like it has full rear-wheel drive.

Along with the ability to customise these settings, Track Mode displays extra visualisations. For instance, there is a g-force graph that shows the amount of g-force applied during cornering, as well as the temperature of the tyres, motors, and battery pack.

Until now, Track Mode has been available on only Performance or Plaid models, but that may soon change.

Track Mode was developed and tuned specifically for the Performance Model 3, which features performance brakes and tyres. Despite being announced in July, it is still not available for the Performance Model Y. Tesla just handed out Track Mode to the Model S Plaid via software version 2021.44.30, and it's possible that the Model Y will follow suit.

Track Mode has various additional capabilities in addition to selecting how the vehicle handles, the higher performance cooling, and the graphics.

Track Mode enables you to place start and stop marks on the map. After setting these markers, the car will automatically show lap times and record each lap using the car's cameras.

The cameras utilised in track mode are identical to those accessible when the dashcam is engaged. However, when in Track Mode, the car will automatically save each lap to your USB device as a separate video.

According to Elon, Track Mode will be available on the non-performance Model 3 and Model Y cars, but not on the high-performance Model 3.

In a recent Twitter exchange between @benettm and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, it was disclosed that non-performance cars will have access to Track Mode. When asked if Model 3/Y owners who purchased the Acceleration Boost update would be eligible for Track Mode, Musk replied, "Okay."

While Track Mode is expected to be available on non-Performance models with the Acceleration Boost upgrade, it may soon be available on all models in some way. The carmaker is not unfamiliar with over-the-air performance enhancements. Last year, Tesla introduced a $2,000 Acceleration Boost update for a limited number of eligible automobiles.

Owners of vehicles equipped with acceleration boost, and possibly even those without, should anticipate Track Mode becoming available in the near future via a software update. Tesla may also release Track Mode for the Model Y at the same time.
