Friday, December 10, 2021 | Chimniii Desk
Key Highlights

    • Cybertruck owners may soon have the option of accessorising their electric adventure vehicle with the ultimate add-on item, converting their truck bed into a solar-powered glamping solution, courtesy of FORM.
    • The FORM Camper is not a Tesla Cybertruck-exclusive solution; it will be compatible with various existing truck models (compatible with all standard truck beds, from 5.8ft, 6.5ft, and 8ft).
    • According to FORM, the camper will take just five minutes to assemble and also functions as a free-standing design.
    • The FORM Camper is still in its infancy, with specifications not yet defined.
    • A prototype is expected to be unveiled in the second quarter of 2022, but with the camper accessory's estimated sale price of roughly $69,500, it may be a rare sighting on trails and campgrounds given the Tesla Cybertruck's starting price of around $39,900.

When the wedge-shaped Tesla Cybertruck debuted two years ago, the all-electric vehicle arguably redefined the pickup truck's popular view. The Cybertruck was imagined as the ultimate expression of go-anywhere (and very quickly) durability; realised with an extremely durable exoskeleton constructed from "ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel," the Cybertruck was imagined as the ultimate expression of go-anywhere (and very quickly) durability.

However, similar to computer peripherals built for Macs that work with PCs, the sleek carbon fibre angularity demonstrates that the FORM design team envisioned their basecamp solution being excellent for hauling on the back of the Cybertruck.

The FORM Camper's aluminium honeycomb frame opens to reveal a surprisingly big and fully equipped 71 square feet of inside space, featuring a pair of nylon-ripstop awnings that stretch from each side, creating useful shaded indoor/outdoor spaces. According to FORM, the camper will take just five minutes to assemble and also functions as a free-standing design.

  • A dry weight of roughly 1,000 pounds and a wet weight of approximately 1,300 pounds

  • Capacity for 50 gallons of fresh water storage. Capacity of 100 gallons with reverse osmosis filtration

  • Grey water storage capacity of 50 gallons

  • 12V 300Ah lithium ion deep cycle battery (solar energy will power battery for non-electric trucks)

  • Storage space of 37.5 cubic feet (25 cubic feet of storage space underneath the bed, 12.5 cubic feet of kitchen storage)

  • Floor area of 71 square feet (33 square feet at floor level, 38 square feet at truck bed level)

  • 2 ripstop nylon awnings with a combined dry area of 124 square feet (62 square feet on each side)

  • Kitchen stove and sink with refrigerator/freezer slide out

In summary, roughing it doesn't seem quite as rough under the premise and promise of FORM's micro-home camper concept, particularly when aided by its roof-mounted 400-watt solar panel system, which should be more than adequate for powering a variety of devices and appliances while adventuring across the backcountry.
