Rivian's R1T is an enticing all-around package. It performs admirably off-road, has remarkable straight-line performance, and comes equipped with a plethora of functional features. However, little information has been released concerning the vehicle's driver assistance technology. Kyle Conner just released a video in which he puts the R1T through his Hogback Driver Assistance Trial to evaluate its self-driving potential.

The test is approximately 15 miles in length and contains 50 turns. Additionally, it contains numerous elevation changes.

The steering wheel on the R1steering T's is capacitive, and it kept centering in its lane throughout the test. If you do not touch the steering wheel, the system will automatically lock you out of the vehicle until you re-enter it. Additionally, it warns you of impending sharp curves. It reacts well in corners, albeit it might jolt a little too sharply at times. Thankfully, an OTA update has reduced the frequency with which the Rivian R1T phantom brakes. Additionally, that OTA update appears to have resolved a bug that prevented lane keep from activating during highway driving.

Kyle had to intervene only once because the R1system T's were never deactivated. While it wasn't always smooth, the R1system T's had a lot of potential and left a favourable impression. For more information, watch the entire video.
