Tesla Giga Texas Grand Opening Party with Community Factory Tours Plan

Elon Musk said on Monday that Tesla will host an event in early 2022 to commemorate the opening of its "Giga Texas" electric vehicle factory (Australia time).

The news came in response to new photographs posted on Twitter of Tesla's EV facility, where the Cybertruck and battery cells will be manufactured.

Musk referred to the event as a "grand opening celebration" that will include factory tours. It is likely to be similar to the "country fair" event that the EV company conducted in October at its Giga Berlin factory. Musk did not specify a specific date, but the event is expected to take place between early January and late March.

While it is unclear when Tesla will begin mass production of the Cybertruck, the announcement of the upcoming launch of Giga Texas is at the very least an indication that "something is taking place at the station," to use an Australian idiom.

According to this crowd-sourced reservation tracker, the Cybertruck, Tesla's avant-garde and angular electric ute (or pickup, as it is known in the United States), will be in high demand when it ultimately goes into production. Tesla has already collected up to 1.3 million fully refundable deposits.

And, as Musk described it in November, it will be a "crazy technology bandwagon," equipped with every technological feature Tesla can throw at it.

However, its implementation has been delayed. Tesla had planned to debut the Cybertruck in late 2021, however that date has been moved back to 2022.

Additionally, the business has removed all references to pricing and motor options from its website, igniting debate over how much the Cybertruck will cost, whether there will be additional delays, and whether Tesla made significant changes to the original design.

Musk has since elaborated, saying that supply chain concerns continue to plague Tesla – as they do with all other makers of things – and that he would present an updated product roadmap to Tesla watchers during the company's January earnings call.

He also stated that the Cybertruck will initially be supplied to consumers in a quad-motor configuration, boosting the ante against electric ute rivals Rivian and General Motors, and capable of "walking like a crab."

Whether this is in addition to the single, dual, and tri-motor varieties, or whether Tesla would discontinue one of them, although the single-motor type has been rumoured to be discontinued.

A drone captured a recent prototype of the Cybertruck at Giga Texas, indicating that Tesla is at least close to mass production of the electric ute. A big windshield wiper spurred additional conjecture about the final version, prompting Musk to respond that it would not contain a giant wiper.

Tesla has not stated whether or not the general public will be able to register for tickets to the Texas opening ceremony. Tesla frequently sends invitations to its special events, but for the Berlin event, the company established a website at giga-fest.com where Berlin residents could register their interest in attending.
