Key Highlights

    • The EPA's certification document, which is listed on the rivianforums.com forum, contains new information regarding the Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S automobiles.
    • According to the report, the vehicles are equipped with an 11.5 kW onboard charger and a 210 kW DC fast charging peak, which is consistent with the manufacturer's earlier estimates.
    • The Rivian's battery has a capacity of 135 kWh and is comprised of nine modules containing 7,776 2170-type cylindrical cells.
    • The useable battery capacity may be 5-7.5 percent lower, as we saw certain "discharge energy" figures between 125 and 128 kWh, but this must be confirmed in a complete range test.

The EPA's certification document, which is listed on the rivianforums.com forum, contains new information regarding the Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S automobiles.

We extracted a few data from the public paper that appear to be significant.

Charging Power

According to the report, the vehicles are equipped with an 11.5 kW onboard charger and a 210 kW DC fast charging peak, which is consistent with the manufacturer's earlier estimates.

In March, the company stated that the R1T and R1S will charge at a rate greater than 200 kW and that future models will charge at a rate greater than 300 kW.

Both figures are peak values, however despite the fact that they are not the highest (particularly given the 135 kWh battery capacity), a peak value does not allow us to draw broad generalisations, as the average value may still be rather high.

Heat Pump

Rivian electric vehicles do not have a heat pump:

Weight

What's intriguing is some information regarding the weight. The R1T weighs 6,949 lbs at the curb, while the R1S weighs 6,916 lbs

Battery

The Rivian's battery has a capacity of 135 kWh and is comprised of nine modules containing 7,776 2170-type cylindrical cells. The nominal capacity is 360 Ah, and the operating voltage ranges from 216 to 459 V.

The useable battery capacity may be 5-7.5 percent lower, as we saw certain "discharge energy" figures between 125 and 128 kWh, but this must be confirmed in a complete range test.

On the other side, the "Recharge Event Energy" indicates 146-153 kWh, depending on the car and test.
