All-electric vehicles may never be Apple's goal. Maybe. One thing is certain: another EV partnership has fallen through at Apple's California headquarters.

Reuters reported that talks between Apple and CATL and BYD over battery supplies have stalled. Apple reportedly demands that the EV's battery supplier develop operations and recruit workers in the US. They must also be 100% committed to Apple. Contracts with other automakers are out. That said, it's understandable why those Chinese firms left.

Recently, Hyundai and Apple were close to a deal that would have seen Hyundai develop an EV at one of its sites, but without access to advanced technology. Apple only wanted Hyundai to manufacture the automobile. Hyundai had nothing to gain from it and went away.

Apple's demands now appear to be too high. Why can't Apple find its own batteries? Because these Chinese firms provide cheaper lithium iron phosphate battery technology. CATL is the world's largest EV battery producer. However, it is cautious about developing a US factory owing to US-China political difficulties.

BYD, on the other hand, has an iron-phosphate battery factory in California, but it is not exclusive to Apple. So, Apple's EV is officially dead. No way. According to the article, the business has sent a team to Japan to talk to battery makers including Panasonic. Apple will release its EV in 2024.

Project leader Doug Field recently left for Ford, thus this may be delayed. Tesla had no trouble getting batteries from CATL for Chinese-built Model 3 and Model Y.
