Wednesday, August 9, 2023 | Chimniii Desk

p> Virgin Galactic is set to launch its second commercial spaceflight on August 10, 2023, furthering the company's mission of broadening access to space.

The flight, known as Galactic 02, will carry a crew of six people, including a former Olympian, a mother-daughter duo, and people from the Caribbean. This will be the first time that a former Olympian has flown to space, and the first time that people from the Caribbean have flown on a commercial spaceflight.

The crew of Galactic 02 is as follows:

  • Jon Goodwin, a former British Olympian
  • Keisha Schahaff, a 50-year-old mother of two
  • Anastatia Mayers, Schahaff's 26-year-old daughter
  • Peter Siebold, a Virgin Galactic astronaut instructor
  • CJ Sturckow, a former NASA astronaut
  • Dave Mackay, a Virgin Galactic pilot

Galactic 02 will launch from Virgin Galactic's Spaceport America in New Mexico. The flight will reach an altitude of over 50 miles, giving the crew several minutes of weightlessness and stunning views of the Earth below.

This is the second commercial spaceflight for Virgin Galactic, following a successful mission in June. The company has plans to launch dozens more flights in the coming years, and to eventually make space tourism more affordable and accessible to everyone.

Virgin Galactic's mission to broaden access to space is an important one. Space travel has the potential to revolutionize many industries, from tourism to healthcare to manufacturing. By making space more accessible, Virgin Galactic is helping to pave the way for a new era of human exploration and innovation.
