Elon Musk Slams Jordan Peterson Twitter Suspension: Going Way Too Far

Thursday, July 7, 2022 | Chimniii Desk

Elon Musk, a billionaire and potential future owner of Twitter, has stated that the platform's suspension of Jordan Peterson's account goes "too far."

Peterson was suspended from Twitter for violating the platform's terms of service with a tweet that deadnamed transgender actor Elliot Page. Peterson has since stated that he would "rather die" than delete the tweet that would reinstate him on Twitter.

The tweet that led to Peterson's temporary suspension on June 22 contained a link that is no longer accessible but read: "Remember when arrogance was considered a sin? And Ellen Page has recently had her breasts surgically removed by a criminal doctor.

Early Tuesday morning, a Twitter user asked Musk, who is frequently outspoken on a variety of topics, for his opinion on the matter.

Musk responded, "Yeah, they're going far too far in silencing dissenting opinions," when asked about Peterson being "banned from the bird app."

This occurred after Musk posted a meme on Independence Day claiming Twitter inserts information warnings that contradict what people are saying. In a satirical tweet by Paul Revere, his famous phrase "The British are coming" is followed by the message "Learn how British taxes are advantageous to society."

Peterson's close associates brought up Musk multiple times after the news of his suspension leaked online. Peterson's daughter Mikhaila and conservative commentator Dave Rubin both urged Musk, the potential buyer of Twitter, to alter the platform's rules if he acquires the company. Since sharing the initial post, Rubin's Twitter account has also been suspended.

As with all of Musk's tweets, his Twitter comment and the decision to suspend Peterson sparked discussion across social media.

This was the popular opinion of Reddit user @terminalmemelocity: "He should buy Twitter and change the rules." The sentiment was echoed by @Matthewmurphy17, who tweeted, "Lol, if only Elon would hurry and purchase Twitter." Many on Twitter and Reddit referred to Musk as "elite."

Peterson and Rubin's supporters have given Twitter a great deal of criticism for suspending their accounts.

After Ellen began trending online, Ben Shapiro, a conservative political commentator, began discussing Elliot Page and the subject of transgender individuals and deadnaming. A Twitter representative explained to Buzzfeed that it was an error, and they immediately removed "Ellen Page" from the trending list. In response, Shapiro wrote, "No one may mention the unutterable name; those who do will be exiled to the outer realms."

Shapiro broke the news that Rubin had suffered the same fate as Peterson and offered his opinion on the subject of deadnaming.

The term "deadnaming" refers to the process of recognising a name change. Gender ideology violates the laws of biology, logic, and physics; therefore, we must engage in time travel and pretend there was a man named Elliot Page who portrayed a pregnant woman in the film "Juno." Shapiro said.
