Following the successful completion of the preliminary design review (PDR) stage last year, the Tejas Mk2 program's design team has completed the critical design review (CDR), paving the way for the rollout of a pre-production aircraft by the end of 2022.

Numerous components for Tejas MK2, including general systems and structures, are being built following the completion of the critical design review (CDR), according to Dr. Anantha Krishnan of Tarmak Media House.

LRDE has already received a production order for two improved Uttam Aesa Radars for the Tejas Mk2 aircraft, which will be delivered to HAL in April 2022. Metal cutting began early this year, and idrw.org has been informed that the first aircraft will be assembled in the final quarter of FY2021-22.

The Tejas MK2 programme plans to construct around 170 advanced 4.5-generation fighters between 2030 and 2020 to replace the outdated fleet of Jaguars, Mig-29s, and Mirage-2000s. The first flight is scheduled for 2023, followed by testing and assessment until 2027, after which manufacturing will begin in 2028-29.

Dr. Girish Deodhare, ADA's programme director, stated earlier this year that 560 Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSME) and five Tier-I companies that were previously a part of the LCA-Tejas Mk1 eco-system have been re-engaged to develop the Tejas Mk2 programme, as they have gained expertise in this field.
