According to the lawsuit, Musk told an investor that he would only pay rent for his dead body. The lawsuit was filed in the District Court of Delaware. The defendants of the lawsuit were accused of violating 14 counts, including fraud, labor-rights laws, and breach of contract. In the last few months, landlords in London, New York City, and San Francisco have sued the company over claims that it was failing to pay rent.

The lawsuit said that a man who worked at the company for 12 years was aware of Musk's decision to stop paying rent. That message was relayed to him by a venture capitalist who had invested in Musk, according to the lawsuit. "Killian tried to convince Musk that any attempt to change the terms of the lease would be doomed to failure," the lawsuit said. According to the lawsuit, the conversation took place at 4 a.m. on the same day.

According to Musk, he slept for six hours a night. He told the radio station that he had shot himself in the foot by using the internet after 3 a.m. According to the lawsuit, Alex Spiro, Musk's attorney, said it was unreasonable for San Francisco's landlords to expect it to pay rent because it was a "shithole."
