Tesla linked to more development around Gigafactory Texas

Tesla appears to be acquiring additional land in the vicinity of the Gigafactory in Texas for future projects. According to recent filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, plans to construct an $11 million, 220,000-square-foot warehouse directly over the Colorado River from Tesla's enormous electric vehicle manufacturing appear to have begun.

According to the application, the land is owned by Horse Ranch LLC, a company related to Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Horse Ranch LLC has been acquiring hundreds of acres of property in the vicinity of Gigafactory Texas. Jared Birchall, who serves on the board of directors of the Musk Foundation and handles Musk's family office, has been named as the manager of Horse Ranch LLC.

According to recent records, building of the $11 million, 220,000-square-foot warehouse will begin on June 1, 2022, with completion scheduled for June 1, 2023. Due to the fact that these registrations are often preliminary, there is a good chance that the project will change as the facility is built.

While the Gigafactory Texas is on track to begin shipping Model Ys to consumers by the end of the quarter, Tesla's expansion into the region is likely only getting started. Recently, rumours indicated that Tesla is considering establishing a "Project Cathode" in the area. Additionally, filings for "Project Bobcat" were made in April 2021.

While details on "Project Cathode" are scarce, rumours imply that the initiative will involve the construction of a battery manufacturing plant for the company's 4680 cells, which will be utilised in the structural battery packs for the Made-in-Texas Model Y. Similar facilities are being developed for Tesla's other manufacturing locations, including Giga Berlin.

Tesla's headquarters are now located in the Gigafactory Texas location. With this in mind, it's not surprising to see the electric vehicle manufacturer embark on a number of high-profile projects aimed at expanding its influence in the region. After all, Tesla has stated that it intends to manufacture several of its main vehicles in Texas, ranging from the best-selling Model Y to the contentious Cybertruck. Additionally, speculation implies that the Model 3 and maybe even the Tesla Semi will be manufactured in Texas.
