Tesla is planning to release 'Chinese-style automobiles.' But what exactly does that imply?
A car is a car , How can its design be tailored to appeal to people of a particular ethnic group? Tesla is apparently planning to create a design centre in Beijing, China's capital, to enable it produce cars with a distinct Chinese aesthetic.

Tesla confirmed in 2020 that it plans to create "Chinese-style" automobiles. Reuters recently claimed, citing a government document, that Tesla may establish a design centre in Beijing. According to some speculations, the first Tesla design studio could be located in Shanghai, which is also home to the company's first manufacturing site outside of the United States. But the more recent report may point to the capital of the country itself.

But what exactly is a 'Chinese-style' automobile?

While Tesla hasn't said anything about it, it's likely that the company plans to release smaller, more affordable electric vehicles that would be used mostly for city commuting. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has already stated that his business plans to provide an EV that is more cheap than the Model 3 in the future, with this model aimed at developing markets.

China, on the other hand, is the world's largest automobile and electric vehicle market. As a result, securing and maintaining pole position is the ultimate goal of most automobile manufacturers.

Competition comes not only from other large global car firms, but also from local electric vehicle manufacturers. The Chinese government is said to have recently attempted to assist domestic players by decreasing the pricing bracket, thereby making government incentives available.

Tesla has a presence in China.

In Shanghai, Tesla opened its first manufacturing site outside of the United States. Vehicles began rolling out of the plant in 2019, and the facility now acts as a platform for exports to a variety of global markets in addition to meeting local demand in China.

Despite the fact that Tesla and Chinese authorities haven't always agreed - at one point, officials suspected Tesla vehicles of sending critical data to foreign borders - Tesla has remained a popular EV brand in China, despite the enormous and growing number of alternatives.
