In a new statement, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, said that the company plans to finish developing the Tesla Cybertruck this year so that it can go into production in 2023.
According to the auto-tech website Electrek, Musk was asked about Tesla's short-term aims during an event marking the start of Model Y deliveries at Gigafactory Berlin.
Musk repeated Tesla's emphasis this year is on ramping up production of existing vehicle programmes, particularly Model Y and Model 3, but he also made a rare reference to Cybertruck. He said that Tesla wants to finish developing the Cybertruck this year so that it can start making them in 2023.
"We plan to finish developing Cybertruck this year and begin manufacturing the following year," Musk was reported as saying.
When it introduced the Cybertruck in 2019, Tesla stated that the electric pickup truck would be available by the end of 2021. As the deadline neared, the carmaker said that production would be put on hold until 2022.

Musk later stated that Tesla intended to begin production of the electric pickup truck at the Gigafactory in Texas in "late 2022."
With the focus obviously on getting the Model Y into production at the facility, which has been delayed as well, the report stated that it was likely that the Cybertruck manufacturing timeframe would slip as well.
In January's earnings report, Musk confirmed that Tesla would not introduce the Cybertruck or any new vehicle in 2022.
The CEO remained coy on the electric pickup truck, saying only that it would "hopefully" arrive "next year"—in 2023.
Since then, there have been rumours that Tesla plans to start making the Cybertruck in early 2023.
