Beautiful Italian wedge.

The future has here, as these are the first images of the Lamborghini Aventador's replacement. Although it is still heavily camouflaged, enough is visible to get a sense of how the new supercar will look.

Our spies are certain that this is not a test mule, but a genuine production prototype for the new Lamborghini. We must come to an agreement. While the contours of the vehicle conform to the Italian brand's signature wedge-shaped styling language, the design does not match the Aventador.

The nose and windshield are connected by a continuous line, and the fender looks to have a flared part. Although these photographs do not provide a clear view of the headlights, they appear to be tiny openings towards the front end's tip.

It is unknown if the gap in the roof fabric is merely loose or is intended to direct air to an intake. The doors are pretty substantial. We anticipate that, like the Aventador, Murcielago, Diablo, and Countach, they will feature scissor-opening hinges.

The cloth camouflage does an excellent job of concealing the rear deck's shape. It appears to be somewhat flat in shape. From the back, things are more stunning. There are two hexagonal exhaust ports on the roof, each with a pair of circular pipes visible inside. They are positioned away from the bumper, allowing engineers to create a big diffuser beneath the vehicle.

While the new Lambo will retain its mid-mounted V12 engine, the powertrain will be fundamentally different from the current unit. Additionally, it will benefit from a plug-in hybrid system. The setup will omit supercapacitors, implying a more standard electric motor and battery combo.

The output of the powertrain is currently unknown. Although we would not anticipate Lambo to make the next model any less powerful than the existing one.

Expect to see the Aventador successor in testing for the foreseeable future, as the model is not scheduled to appear until 2023. That means our spies will have well over a year to document the vehicle's progress prior to its public appearance.
