When Ramon Laguarta informed CNBC that PepsiCo would receive its first Tesla Semi in Q4 2021, we noted that it sounded suspiciously like something Elon Musk would subsequently dispute on Twitter. That was confirmed within four days. When asked about it, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that it will not happen.
When a Tesla fan inquired about Semi delivery, Musk stated that the company is "limited by chip supply in the immediate term and cell supply in the long run." Nonetheless, it would be "impossible to manufacture new vehicles in bulk unless these constraints are resolved." Ironically, Musk made no mention of the fact that the issue with batteries extends beyond supply. It has to do with mass producing 4680 cells.
As we have stated numerous times, Tesla has built its whole new product line on the new battery format. It constructed two new plants with the intention of producing automobiles centred around it. Yet the corporation has not completed development of that critical component for both the plants and the automobiles that will be produced. To put it mildly, that is a dangerous thing to undertake.
Musk might then discuss a supply limitation if the 4680 table cells were available. At the moment, there is no supply of 4680 cells: they have yet to be generated. This is why, regardless of how excited Tesla customers such as PepsiCo may be, the Semi, the Cybertruck, and the Roadster will not arrive anytime soon.

With Musk's public rejection of Semi deliveries in 2021, the only remaining question is what PepsiCo would do about it. Laguarta may eventually accept his error. He may also choose to avoid discussing it in the hope that people would ultimately forget. A more drastic move would be to cancel PepsiCo's Semi-orders and immediately purchase anything the rival can deliver. Volvo already sells the VNR Electric, and a slew of competitors are on the verge of entering the market.
