Tesla purchases machinery for manufacturing Cybertruck drive units: Report

Friday, July 8, 2022 | Chimniii Desk
Even though there have been numerous delays with the Tesla Cybertruck, it appears that the highly awaited electric truck is getting closer to going into production.

Tesla has reportedly begun ordering equipment from German producers to create drive units for the Cybertruck, according to a report from the German newspaper teslamag. It's noteworthy that these producers also provide the technology for Giga Berlin and Giga Shanghai.

The machines are now being built, and the first parts are anticipated to be produced at Giga Texas in July 2023, according to the people in the business who provided the information. These new machines are supposedly capable of producing over 750,000 drive units annually when operating at full capacity.

Although we haven't been able to verify this claim, the date of July 2023 fits with recent statements made by Elon Musk, who stated that the Cybertruck's design has been finalised and that it will go into production in the middle of the year 2023.

We only have confirmations of the order for a die-casting machine from IDRA Group, which debuted a colossal 9,000 tonne Giga Press last month in Italy, as equipment for the Cybertruck. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, revealed that the device was for the Cybertruck's body.

Fremont and Giga Texas have received additional, smaller Giga Press machines from IDRA for the Model Y.

Although this order does not officially indicate the commencement of production, it does suggest that Tesla is beginning to set up for production now that the design is complete.
