Tesla makes its EV charging connector design public

The company has invited charging network operators and vehicle manufacturers to use its charging port, and is opening its EV charging design to the world. It is the most proven in North America and offers AC and DC charging in one package. The company said that it has no moving parts, is half the size, and is twice as powerful as the Combined Charging System. As part of its mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy,Tesla is making the design freely available to both vehicle manufacturers and charging network operators.

The North American Charging Standard (NACS) is the most common charging standard in North America, according to the company. It will soon be possible forTesla owners to charge their vehicles on other networks. Network operators plan to incorporate NACS at their charging stations. The NACS design and charging will be included in future electric vehicles. The design and specification files were made available to anyone who wanted them. The files include the technical specification, AC/DC pin sharing.
