Ultrasonic sensors are being removed from its electric vehicles, with the knock-on effect being some Autopilot features will be temporarily disabled. The radar was removed from the Model 3 and Model Y and replaced with a cameras-only computer vision system. The Model S and Model X switched to Vision. The Model 3 and Model Y rolling off production lines in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Taiwan are no longer a feature of the Model 3 and Model Y. Next year, the Model S and Model X will no longer be used. Vehicles used to rely on 12 USS located on the front and rear bumpers.

The company launched a vision-based network used in the full self- driving trial. The network is meant to replace the inputs generated by the system and allow it to enjoy high-definition spatial positioning, longer range visibility and ability to identify and differentiate between objects. The network is expected to improve rapidly.
