Tesla Giga Berlin gathers its Model Y vehicle in preparation for the delivery event next week.

Tesla looks to be busy finalising plans for the Model Y delivery event at Gigafactory Berlin next week, with the company now stocking up on the all-electric crossover on the facility's grounds. Tesla watchers who have been tracking the growth of the Germany-based EV production facility since its early days have uploaded images of the vehicles online.

Giga Berlin is still buzzing with activities as the days wind down to March 22, 2022. The facade of Giga Berlin's battery cell manufacturing building is still being worked on, and new graffiti has been added. More crucially, in Giga Berlin's Northern Logistics Area, more production Model Ys are now being gathered. The vehicles, which appear to be of high quality, resemble alien pods waiting for their owners to take them home.

On March 22, the first wave of Tesla Model Y deliveries will take place at Giga Berlin as part of the site's celebrations. Attendees of the Giga Berlin Model Y delivery ceremony could register as early as 9 a.m., according to Tesla's invitations, however actual handovers of the all-electric crossover would not begin until approximately 1:30 p.m. Prior to then, participants will be given a tour of the Giga Berlin facility, letting them to see firsthand how their cars are made.

The Model Y delivery ceremony next week will involve some fun gimmicks, similar to prior Tesla handover ceremonies. Owners, for example, might choose the music that plays when their Model Y leaves the factory. The celebrations are also extremely long, starting at 3 p.m. and lasting until 9 p.m. Elon Musk is likely to attend the event, though no official announcement has yet been made.

The first Model Y deliveries from Gigafactory Berlin have been a long time coming. Tesla had hoped to begin vehicle deliveries in 2021 when the site was unveiled. However, it was a pre-pandemic goal, and when the facility's plans grew and local environmental groups objected, Giga Berlin became bogged in red tape. Fortunately, the plant received final environmental permission this month, allowing local vehicle manufacture to begin.

Giga Berlin is not yet operating, but Tesla Germany is already doing well in the local electric vehicle market. The Tesla Model 3 became the country's best-selling electric vehicle in February 2022, with 3,690 registrations. With 2,254 units sold in February 2022, the Model Y came in second. Once Giga Berlin begins producing vehicles for the local market, these figures are likely to skyrocket.
