The cars have undergone extensive testing among drivers all around the nation and were built with comfort, safety, and sustainability in mind. They are the result of Amazon's collaboration with Rivian, which the two firms revealed when Amazon co-founded the latter in 2019. Amazon also became the first signatory to The Climate Pledge, which aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across all of our activities by the year 2040. As part of the Pledge, Amazon is developing a more environmentally friendly delivery fleet, and its collaboration with Rivian is crucial to decarbonizing its last mile operations and fostering innovation that can assist others in achieving net-zero carbon emissions.

By committing to have all 100,000 of its delivery cars be electric by 2030, Amazon will reduce carbon emissions by millions of metric tonnes annually.

"Fighting the effects of climate change demands ongoing innovation and action, and Amazon is collaborating with businesses who share our passion for developing fresh solutions to lessen our influence on the environment.

"We're thrilled to have our first custom electric delivery trucks on the road. Rivian has been a terrific partner in that mission," said Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon. "Today represents an important turning point in our Climate Pledge pledge. The goal of Rivian is to have 100,000 of its vehicles on the road by 2030, and we're just getting started on that path. Rivian was one of the first businesses Amazon invested in through the Climate Pledge Fund. In addition to being environmentally friendly, these new cars are also fantastic for drivers because they were among the safest and most comfortable delivery vehicles on the road at the time of their design.

RJ Scaringe, CEO of Rivian, said that today "represents a crucial step, not just for Amazon and Rivian as partners, but also for transportation and the environment." "In 2019, Rivian and Amazon agreed to move quickly to develop a new delivery vehicle type that would significantly reduce carbon emissions. That dream is now becoming a reality because of the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of our teams, as well as a shared purpose to improving the world for our children's children. To say that this is a momentous occasion is an understatement; we are delighted to see that this relationship has sparked decarbonization initiatives throughout the logistics delivery sector.

Since 2021, Amazon has been testing deliveries using preproduction Rivian vehicles, shipping over 430,000 products and logging over 90,000 km. Through extensive testing, Rivian has been able to further enhance the vehicle's usefulness and performance, safety and durability in a variety of environments and climates, as well as its cutting-edge technologies, to assure driver satisfaction. Additionally, Rivian has obtained certifications from the California Air Resources Board, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
