At a Friday staff appreciation ceremony, the Menlo Park Police Department displayed their Tesla Model Y. The attached image of a Tesla Model Y police cruiser was posted by Police Commander T. J. Moffett, who noted that it was the newest vehicle in the fleet. Additionally, he expressed his eagerness for cops to use the Tesla Model Y as the department keeps a strong emphasis on decarbonization.
"I'm happy that yesterday during our staff appreciation event, we were able to introduce our newest fleet car to Menlo Park city employees. As we continue our decarbonization efforts, I can't wait for our officers to put this Tesla through its paces," Commander Moffett commented on

The
Menlo Park Police Department bought three Tesla Model Y cars earlier this year for patrol, and they aim to achieve an all-electric fleet by 2030. According to Chief Dave Norris of the department, it is crucial for them to have all of their vehicles electrified by 2030 if they want to take the lead in this movement.

Tesla cars don't have engines, therefore the department had to have the cars modified with bullet shielding in case the worst happened, like a battle.
To ensure that there is a level of protection that allows us to know that we can tactically get behind that vehicle in a particular fashion, "we need to bring these vehicles and get them ballistic shielding."
Another police agency decided to buy Tesla Model Ys for its fleet at the same time Menlo Park was displaying one of its Model Y fleet vehicles. In announcing the new acquisition, Boulder City, Nevada said that as a global pioneer in energy generation, it is now reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.
