In addition to its electric SUVs, electric pickup trucks, and the recently launched EDV-700 electric delivery van that it has designed for Amazon, Rivian, the electric mobility startup that is backed by Ford and Amazon, has announced that there will be more new commercial vehicles that are part of its product portfolio.

RJ Scaringe, the CEO of Rivian, predicted a wide range of further commercial uses for the RCV platform, which serves as the foundation for the Amazon electric van.

"We're considering a wide range of business aspects, including cargo and labour vehicles, in addition to last-mile delivery. We've discussed a variety of things with different clients," he told Reuters.

According to Scaringe, smaller commercial vehicles may make use of some of the same parts found in Rivian's electric delivery van created for Amazon. The R2 electric crossover, which is also available, is now in development and will soon begin production at a new factory in Georgia.

He claimed that the R2 will also be used in the new commercial vehicles. By 2030, Scaringe said Rivian would be generating one million EVs annually.

As we approach the 2030s, there will be much more than that. That will necessitate a variety of vehicles with various platforms and sizes. And ultimately, numerous plants in addition to those we already have in Normal and those Atlanta has declared. Additional facilities will be available, enabling us to expand into these various areas, he said.

Amazon has already placed a 100,000 electric vehicle order with Rivian, and by 2023 it expects to have more clients. With a 20% investment in the company, Amazon is Rivian's largest shareholder, but the e-commerce behemoth also partners with Stellantis and Mercedes Benz.
